Skin Free Change in Formulations Effective Immediately

In order to continue to make the absolutely safest and most non-toxic products that we possible can, we are making the following formulation changes:

1) We will remove Sodium Borate from our Liquid Soap and any of the Scrubs that have our Liquid Soap blended in them. We initially began using this chemical to adjust the pH of our Liquid Soap, but it's toxicity rating is too high. We will just be patient and let our soap cure the old fashion way.

2) We will no longer be using Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate as a preservative. We originally chose this preservative because of it's low rating on the Environmental Working Group's database. It was rated at "1". It's rating has now increased due to possible chemical change into formaldehyde. We will now use a combination
of Polyaminopropyl Biguanide and Potassium Sorbate whenever we need to use a preservative.

Polyaminopropyl Biguanide is a gentle, paraben-free and formaldehyde-free preservative used in baby wipes and contact lens solution. Potassium Sorbate is a food grade preservative used as an anti-fungal.

We hope this makes you feel a little bit safer!

Skin Free Skincare Kid Health Tip #1: Olive Oil for Earaches

I was reading "somewhere" (sorry! need ginko!) that one of the naturopathic pediatricians recommended warmed olive oil accompanied by accu-pressure on the feet for that emergency earache that always comes late at night, on weekends, or just after the doctor's office closes.

I whole-heartly endorse this recommendation. "Sweet oil", aka, olive oil has been sold forever as a magic earache remedy. Well, I have to tell you, it's not magic and it does work and here's why:

*Earaches are caused by pressure on the very sensitive eardrum. Pressure is generally caused by congestion, earwax build-up, or an accumulation of serum or pus on the eardrum.

*Warm olive oil directly heats the eardrum, which can help relieve the pressure.

*If there is actually pus on the eardrum, you have a serious infection and the pain will most likely return. This condition requires medical attention.

*If the problem is congestion caused by a cold or allergies, the olive oil will take care of the pain until the congestion returns. The child should be receive lots of fluids orally and a dose of OTC allergy meds or antihistamines.

* Olive oil also contains a natural non-steroidal antiinflammary similar in structure to ibuprofen. This may contribute to local pain relief.

* Warmed oil may also help dissolve built-up earwax.

* The accu-pressure is a marvelous therapy if you know where the pressure points are in the feet. Even if you don't, a good foot massage is relaxing and can help get your child to sleep as the pain in the ear is relieved.

Extra recommendations:

* Warm oil by placing small container in hot water. Do not use microwave. You don't want to burn the ear. Test the temperature on your wrist before using.

* Don't buy "Sweet Oil"! Get the good stuff at your local grocery. Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil is great for you inside and out. Buying a small bottle of low grade sweet oil at the pharmacy is a waste of money. It's probably old and not the quality oil that will have the NSAID moiety left in it.

* Never use cotton swabs in your child's ear to apply oil or try to clean wax. This causes a compaction of the wax against the eardrum and can cause mild hearing loss and pain.

* If you are out of Olive, but you have some Skin Free After Shower Moisture Spritz around, you can always use that. It's not pure olive oil, but it will do the trick in an emergency.

New Skin Free Review at Here and There Blog

Pat over at the Here and There blog bills herself as a "bargain hunting traveler". She and her husband spend a lot of time traveling in their RV and visiting their time share. They've been everywhere in the US except Alaska, so she's a pretty good source of travel and bargain information.

Pat was the typical "skeptical and reluctant" reviewer who didn't believe in the Skin Free magic. Now that I know she goes to Disney World at least twice a year, I know that she must clap for Tinkerbell! Why not for Skin Free?

Having had miserable experiences with her skin forever and gone through the usual expensive doctor visit ritual, she wasn't sure Skin Free could do anything for her.

AH HA!! Fooled another one!!! Pat now loves the Extra Moisturizing Soap with it's rich lather.

The Super Moisture Body Balm lived up to it's claim. Pat says, "I am proof of what the label claims: for delicate, sensitive or very dry skin; helpful for allergies, eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis."

The Whipped Tamanu Body Butter was the icing on the cake. Now Pat says, "Finally I have a skin that looks great and feels great too. It is soft, supple, not oily."

Would you like to join Pat in the pleasures of Skin Free Skincare? She's got a giveaway going for a $30 Gift Certificate for our products.

For those of you who want to shop locally, don't forget Walgreens is now carrying our Soap, Balm, and After Shower Moisture Spritz. Check this link for store locations and more information.

The Clan McLeod Take a Stand on Skin Free

Gina, who writes The Clan McLeod blog, recently reviewed some of my favorite products from Skin Free Skincare.

Gina received Skin Free Extra Moisturizing Soap, Skin Free Sweet and Smooth Sugar Scrub, and my very favorite, Skin Free Whipped Tamanu Body Butter. Since the SF Sweet and Smooth Sugar Scrub is oil based, I rarely moisturize on top of it. Not Gina! She went for the whole shebang and used all three in one sitting! That girl has got to be the softest, sweetest, smoothest woman for miles.

Why don't you vist Gina's blog and see the experience from her perspective.

Later, Julie

Mommy's Hangout & It's Just Simply Unique Do the Skin Free Happy Dance

Jennifer from It's Just Simply Unique is starting a second blog called Mommy's Hangout. So she got wild and put her review on one site and the giveaway on the other. Hope ya'll can keep it straight!

Jennifer is another girly scent girl (Blue Ridge Gypsy Studio has fragranced products. She wasn't too sure she was gonna like our unscented brand until she tried it. Then the usual "ohhh that feels so good" reaction set in.

She went bananas at that point and started rubbing Skin Free Sweet and Smooth Sugar Scrub and Skin Free Extra Moisturizing Soap all over her entire family.

I think it was very nice of her to share. Not only did Jennifer get soft and sexy, but her daughter Jada got an improvement for her eczema, and her daughter Jasmine tried to take the whole bunch of stuff for herself.

I really think you ought to go visit Miss Jennifer at Mommy's Hangout and read her review. Then you need to skip on over to It's Just Simply Unique and enter Jennifer's giveaway for a $30 Skin Free Gift Certificate. I do, I really do!

Skin Free Skincare is Part of Daily Essentials and Deals

Megan at Daily Essentials and Deals has just done a great review on our Basic Four Set. She has a giveaway for a $30 Skin Free Gift Certificate and her contest ends on July 6th. So hurry on over there and enter!!!!

A Perfectly Honest Review from For the Love of Chaos

When Kathleen, who writes For the Love of Chaos, emailed me that she had posted "an honest review" I panicked for a split second. We had sent Kat the Skin Free Basic Four Set, which were our first four products and the ones we sell the most.

I know not everyone likes all of our products, but I don't enjoy getting negative reviews. Nobody does.

Boy, was I surprised and delighted when I went to Kat's site. She absolutely loved the products. It seems the only qualm that she had was that she really likes girly scented soaps. She was absolutely surprised to find that our unscented soap actually is unscented.

Let me warn you unsuspecting clients of many so-called unscented products. They do have fragrance in them. You see the FDA has a little loophole for people that make products that are a little, shall-we-say, stinky. They have allowed the addition of what is know in the business as a "masking fragrance". If your read the ingredients, (AND YOU SHOULD ALWAYS READ THE INGREDIENTS) you will see Masking Fragrance listed plain as day. I am am extremely allergic to most artificial fragrances and have never been able to use these products. That's one reason that I started formulating Skin Free. If our label says "unscented", that's exactly what you get.

FYI, for those of you who do love girly scents, we do have another website which offers our original Blue Ridge Gypsy products.

Kat really has some wonderful things to say about our products, so I hope you check out her site and enter her giveaway contest for a $30 Skin Free Gift Certificate!

Skin Free Skincare Makes Good Mourning Glory's Tattoos Sparkle

Diane, who writes Good Mourning Glory - A Bad Girl Gone Good, has caught on to an unheralded benefit of Skin Free Skincare products. They make your tattoos look better! Now any tattoo afficionado will tell you, tattoos can fade or get dull. But great skincare products really will bring back their luster by exfoliating dead skin calls off the top and moisturizing the inked skin to a soft sheen.

We sent Diane the Skin Free Sweet and Smooth Sugar Scrub, Skin Free Extra Moisturizing Soap and Shampoo Bar, and the Skin Free Niaouli Butter Stick. She has super dry skin and is allergic to pretty much everything. Skin Free Skincare is designed specifically for people with those issues, so she was quite pleased. The fact that her tattoos are now looking like new was icing on the cake.

Visit Good Mourning Glory to see Diane's review in depth and take advantage of her giveaway. There's another $30 Gift Certificate to Skin Free for some lucky soul.

Better in Bulk? Some Skin Free Users Say "YES!"

If you read our last post with one client saying she wanted to buy Skin Free Niaouli Scrub for Blemish Prone Skin by the bucket, then you will recognize the perfect segue of talking about Laura F.'s review on her great blog Better In Bulk

Laura, being the typical mommy multi-tasker of the the 21st century, had completely forgotten what the products we sent her were supposed to do! I can so relate!!!

We sent Laura the Skin Free About Face Kit which contains Skin Free Daytime Light Moisture and Skin Free Corrective Face Nectar. Fortunately, she did remember that she was supposed to apply one in the AM and the other one at bedtime. So she did that for awhile. Then she began to notice that her skin was improving, which she verified with her DH, AKA, the Candyman. He did the typical male thing and suggested that she read the instructions and find out what was supposed to happen. (MEN!!!)

Laura read the info on the boxes and, low and behold, the products were doing exactly what they said they would do!! Absolutely impressed that the products lived up to their promises, Laura has sworn to be a customer for life.

Now you know that she tells this story a lot better that I do, so rush on over to her blog and check it out. For those of you who just might be interested there is a $30 Skin Free SkinCare Gift Certificate for some lucky winner of Laura's giveaway. Have fun and good luck to all!
